What is Beyond Borders Productions?

Beyond Borders Productions is a UK-based Theatre in Education company bringing professional English-language theatre to schools and theatres. Our productions combine storytelling, live performance, technology and educational activities to make learning English exciting, memorable and accessible.
EduTheatre is our approach to combining professional theatre with English-language learning. Students experience a full theatrical production while developing listening skills, vocabulary, comprehension, confidence and cultural awareness.

What is EduTheatre?
Are your performances entirely in English?

Yes. Our productions are performed in English and are carefully adapted to suit the recommended age group and CEFR English level. Visual storytelling, performance, music and technology also help students understand and follow the story.

Which productions do you offer?

Our current programme includes Little Red Riding Hood, The Wizard of Oz and George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
Which show is right for my students?

Little Red Riding Hood is designed for ages 4–8 and approximately A1 English. The Wizard of Oz is designed for ages 8–13 and approximately A1–A2 English. Animal Farm is designed for ages 14+ and approximately A2 English and above.
Do students need to know the story beforehand?

No. However, we provide educational materials that teachers can use before the performance to introduce the story, characters and key vocabulary.
What if some students have a lower level of English?

That’s completely fine. Our productions use strong visual storytelling, physical performance, professional sound and lighting, and an LED video wall to support understanding. The aim is for students to enjoy the theatrical experience even when they don't understand every individual word.
The Performance Experience
How long are the performances?

Little Red Riding Hood runs for approximately 1 hour 5 minutes, The Wizard of Oz approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, and Animal Farm approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Schools may also have the opportunity to add a workshop or Q&A session.
Are the productions interactive?

Yes. Interaction varies depending on the production. Little Red Riding Hood and The Wizard of Oz include music, audience participation and elements inspired by traditional British pantomime. In The Wizard of Oz, some lucky students may even have the opportunity to take part in the performance.
What happens after the performance?

Depending on the production, venue and booking, students can participate in a workshop or Q&A with the company. These sessions give students another opportunity to practise English, explore vocabulary and discuss the production.

Do you provide teaching materials?

Yes. Supporting educational materials will be available through our website for teachers and students to use before and after the performance.
What will students learn from the experience?

Can the performance support what we're already teaching in class?

Booking & Touring
Do you perform in schools or only in theatres?

Both. Beyond Borders Productions can bring productions directly to schools and also performs in theatres where multiple schools can attend a scheduled performance.

How much space do you need?

Space requirements vary between productions. Once you tell us about your school or venue, our team can advise you on the technical and performance requirements.
How many students can attend?

Capacity depends on the performance space and production. We can discuss your student numbers when you enquire and recommend the most suitable arrangement.
How much does a performance cost?

Can several schools attend the same performance?

Yes. For performances hosted in theatres and larger venues, bookings may be available to multiple schools.
Can we book more than one performance in the same day?

Depending on the production, location and schedule, multiple performances may be possible. Our touring team can discuss the best arrangement with you.
How far in advance should we book?

We recommend contacting us as early as possible, particularly for larger groups and specific dates. Touring availability can be limited during busy school periods.
Teachers & Organisation
What information do you need when I make an enquiry?

It helps to tell us your school name and location, preferred production, approximate number and age of students, English level, preferred dates and whether you are interested in performances in theatre or schools and the option to have workshop or Q&A afterwards.
Do teachers need to stay with students during the performance?

Yes. Teachers and accompanying school staff remain responsible for the supervision of their students throughout the visit or school performance.
Can teachers contact you before the performance?

Absolutely. Our team can help with questions about the production, educational materials, accessibility, technical requirements and preparing students for the experience.
Can you bring the technical equipment directly to our school?

Yes. Where the space is suitable, our touring team can bring the production and its technical setup directly to the school. Before confirming a booking, we will discuss the available performance space, access, power and other practical requirements with you.
Does our school need to provide technical equipment?

Requirements will depend on the production and venue. Our touring productions are designed to travel with their own core technical equipment. If anything additional is required from your school or venue, our team will discuss this with you in advance—there won't be any unexpected technical requirements on the day.
Is the technical setup suitable for younger students?

Yes. All technical elements are designed around the age group of each production. For younger audiences, technology is used to create a colourful, engaging and easy-to-follow world, while productions for older students can use it to create more atmospheric and dramatic environments.
The technology supports the story rather than distracting from it—the most important part of every Beyond Borders Productions performance remains the connection between the actors, the story and the students.
Why watch a play in English if my students are still learning the language?
Students don't need to understand every word to benefit from theatre in another language. Visual storytelling, character, movement, sound, music and context all support comprehension. Experiencing English in a live environment can also help students see the language as something they can use and enjoy — not simply something they study in a textbook.
Is this a theatre performance or an English lesson?
It is first and foremost a professional theatrical experience, created with education in mind. We believe students learn most effectively when they are engaged, curious and enjoying themselves. The educational materials, workshops and Q&A opportunities then help teachers build on that experience.
What makes Beyond Borders Productions different?
We combine professional English-language theatre with education and modern theatrical technology. Our productions use professional performers, sound, lighting and an LED video wall alongside age-appropriate language and supporting educational resources to create an immersive experience for students.
Will students actually enjoy a school theatre trip?
That's the idea! Our productions are designed to feel like a genuine trip to the theatre rather than another classroom lesson. Audience participation, humour, music, visual storytelling and interactive elements help students become part of the experience.
What is the LED video wall used for?
Our LED video wall forms an important part of our visual storytelling. Throughout the performance, it can be used to create changing locations, scenery, atmosphere and visual effects, helping transport students into the world of the story. It also provides additional visual context that can help students follow the action and understand the story, particularly when English is not their first language.
Why is technology important in your productions?
We want students to experience the excitement of professional live theatre. By combining live actors with sound, lighting, music and digital scenery, we can create a much richer theatrical world while still keeping the performers and storytelling at the heart of the production. Technology also gives us another way to communicate with young audiences. Visual cues and changing environments can support students' understanding of what is happening on stage without relying entirely on spoken English.
